MACCHIARINI: A MIXED-METAL AND BONE BROOCH Designed as an abstract face accented by bone, signed P. Macchiarini, with maker's mark, measures 5 x 1 3/4 in. Footnotes: Literature: Illustrated in: Marbeth Schon, Form & Function, American Modernist Jewelry, 1940-1970, page 237 Peter Macchiarini established the Macchiarini studio in San Francisco in 1948 after studying sculpture and architecture in Italy. In collaboration with his son, Daniel Macchiarini, and granddaughter, Emma Macchiarini, the studio is the oldest established mixed-metal practice in the United States. As the family continues to explore shape and form using varying materials, a school for metalsmithing and design was established in connection to the studio and gallery in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco by Emma in 2015.
