Description
Mesopotamia, Babylon, Iraq, Ca. 1900 to 1700 BCE. Very fine tall cylinder seal carved in the round with continuous scene of standing figure wearing long robe, bird standing upon a staff glyphic elements in front, another human approaching with long staff or plant stalk in front. Known as 'kishib' in Sumerian, cylinder seals like this example were used by individuals in every level of society - from kings and rulers, to merchants and tradespeople, to workers and slaves - to communicate messages. Size: .5" W x 1.25" H (1.3 cm x 3.2 cm). Comes with clay roll-out.
