Description
This is an antique hand crafted Deacon's bench from the Shaker community of Watervliet, New York. It has the original black painted surface. The bench came from the South Family Bell House. The provenance from the estate from which this bench came is as follows:
"My grandfather and grandmother, Leonard and Catherina Bol, originally lived on the North Shaker farm, which is now Shaker Ridge country club. My father, Anthony Bol, was born there. Leonard and Catherina bought the South Shaker Farm from, I believe, Frances Hall as trustee of The United Society of Believers called the Shakers. The purchase was made on March 30th, 1943. In later years my dad purchased the farm from his parents."
Please examine the last few images in this listing as they show images of the Farm houses and an architectural cross section drawing of the interior of the bell house.
79 x 30 1/2". The seat height is 16 1/2"
