Beginnings In 1979, Antonio Climent Benaiges "pioneer importer of antiques" and Juan Baldrich decided to establish an auction house that would become a sector benchmark. The name, Bal-cli-s is a neologism derived from the fusion of their family names. They were both attracted to a new and compelling business model that had taken root in England. Their budding auction house contributed to promoting and spreading an interest in art and in auctions among the general public. Balclis took on a key educational role laying the groundwork for greater transparency in the art market. 2nd Generation In 1995, Tachu Climent took over and introduced a new company vision with very clear objectives: the international expansion of the firm, the reinforcement of institutional relations, and the creation of a highly experienced team to provide the best advice possible to collectors. Benchmark Auction House The main objective of Balclis is to simplify the access to the fascinating world of art and to becoming an art collector. The passion and expertise of the specialists at Balclis have helped the firm become the point of reference for leading Spanish museums and collectors of Spanish art worldwide. The Prado, the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the MNAC and the Museo de Bellas Artes in Valencia, among others, have closed some of their most important acquisitions over the past few years with Balclis. Thanks to the commitment and professionalism of the Balclis team, over two hundred works appraised, catalogued, processed and promoted by Balclis are now part of their permanent collections. Balclis has auctioned more than 200,000 works of art, jewellery, and antiques since it was founded, achieving outstanding hammer prices for Old Master and Contemporary Paintings, especially from the 19th and 20th centuries. Milestones: Largest number of pieces sold to Spanish museums by a domestic auction house: over 200 from 2015 to 2017. Record mundial de precio de venta (cuadro de Ramón Casas). World record-setting sale price (painting by Ramón Casas).Best quantitative and qualitative press coverage: advertising value valued at more than 1M euros. Largest number of bibliographical references in catalogues. Largest number of currently active clients: over 14,000. International clients: 51%. Close collaboration with teams of international experts. The only Spanish auction house with a department specialising in Asian Art. The only Spanish auction house with a presence in international events: Invaluable Summit 2017 in Boston.
